Tracking Expenses!!

June 10th, 2008 at 08:13 pm

I have tried tracking my expenses before too, but I have failed miserably every single time. I am trying it one more time, and failing is not an option this time around. Today is the tenth day of the month and I am happy to report that I have not lost track of my expenses, YET.

One question for those who keep track of expenses, do you track it based up on cash (meaning when you pay it out) or based up on when it is accrued?

If I buy something on a credit card today and the bill won't come until July, I would still record it an expense for today - because that money was SPENT today.

Good luck with your task - I find this fascinating and am also doing it right now. We all think we know how much we are spending and on what but the reality often differs from perception.

Add me to the tracking expenses list. I'd been keeping track since June 1th and so far what I see it's not pretty. I'll post my findings on June 30th.
    Good luck tracking!

I've started tracking expenses - fixed, variable and non-allocated - this month. Thus far, it's going well. I do agree that the reality is different from the perception, Nika. That's why it's important to keep track, otherwise, overspending will become one's rule rather than the exception. I certainly don't want it to become mine. Smile

    Good to hear from ya'll.

I am tracking expenses when it is accrued. Few surprises so far.
