CC with better reward plan?

June 2nd, 2008 at 12:03 pm

I am in search of a CC with a better reward plan. CC I currently use doesnít offer any rewards. I donít use my CC much but I pay in full before the due date when I do use it. Since I have been very good at paying in time for last few years, I thought why not take advantage of it? I plan to charge all my purchases and pay it off before the due date. Lets see if I can buy myself an air ticket or two in future. Please help me in my quest to find a CC with a better reward plan. Thank you in advance.

On a personal note, I have been trying to get my self out of the recent downfall. What is a life without ups and downs? I have been facing it head on and I shall prevail at the end. At least that is what I am hoping for.

I have a chase rewards card that pays 3% from home improvement stores, restaurants, and 1% for everything else. I have received $350 in checks from them since Jan. 1st.

I am not a fan of airline reward programs, partly because we don't fly that often and partly because everything I hear and read says that it is getting harder and harder to actually redeem points for a flight you would actually want to take.

I say go with either a cash back card or a card that pays some other reward of value to you. Personally, we use a Marriott Visa and have earned many free hotel stays. Last year alone, we got 11 free nights. We currently have enough points for up to 7 free nights. The only reason we don't have more points at the moment is that we have been using our AOL Visa to take advantage of a 5% reward bonus on gas, groceries and restaurants. We've already collected one $100 check this year and are close to earning a second $100.

We bank with USAA for military members and their families. We get reward points on our debit cards and they offer it on cc's too. The reward points can be redeemed for cash, gift certificates to major retailers, airline discounts and other gifts. I've earned over $150 in rewards in the last year.
